When you join Mykindabook (“MKB”) we ask you to give us some information about you (such as your name, date of birth and email address). We take the privacy of any personal information you give us very seriously, and this policy tells you how we collect information from you, what we use your information for, and your rights in relation to this. If there is anything in this policy that you do not understand, or you have a question about how we use your personal information, please write to us at the address given at the end of this policy.
This is the MKB website, and is owned and operated by Pan Macmillan Limited.
When you join MKB, we will ask you to give us information such as your name, date of birth, and email address. We may also ask for your address and telephone number so we can get in touch with you. We call this 'personal information'.
When you join MKB we will ask for some information so you can fully participate in the activities on this website. This is the sort of thing we ask for and how we use it:
We will ask for your name and email address so we can keep in touch with you via email and occasional goodie packs (via post) that will tell you about new things on the website and new books you might be interested in. We will also update you about our books via a regular email and you can opt out of this service through any email newsletter.
When you enter competitions, we ask for your name and email and residential addresses. This is so that we can let you know if you have won anything, send you your prizes and also let other people (such as other users of our website, the public and our own employees) know about our competitions and their winners.
When you submit anything to be posted on the website, we will ask for your name and email addresses. This is so that, if we want to post this on our website, we can give you credit for what you have written. Any information that is disclosed in these areas of our website becomes public information and you should always be careful when deciding to disclose your personal information. For more information, please click on the Site's Terms and Conditions.
We only keep the personal information you submit for these purposes until we have made use of it in these ways.
Besides what we describe in this Privacy Policy, we do not maintain any personal information obtained from you through this website in a retrievable form.
We will only share your personal information with someone else if the law says that we have to do this or if we believe that we need to do this to protect and defend your rights, property or personal safety.
We may also share your personal information with companies that are in the same group as Pan Macmillan Limited which may be located outside the European Economic Area. We may also share the information with service providers we have retained to perform services on our behalf. Some of these people may be located outside the European Economic Area. These service providers are not authorised by us to use or disclose the information except as necessary to perform services on our behalf or to comply with legal requirements.
If we sell or transfer all or a portion of our business or assets to someone else we might transfer your personal information to them. If this does happen we will ask them to use the personal information you have provided us with in a way that conforms with what is said in this Privacy Policy.
We collect certain aggregated and non-personal information when you visit our website. Aggregated and non-personal information does not relate to a single, identifiable visitor to our site. It tells us information such as how many users visited our website and which pages were accessed. By collecting this information, we learn how to best tailor our website to our visitors. We collect this information either through "cookie" technology or with "web beacons", as explained below.
Like many companies, we use "cookies" on our website(s). Cookies are bits of text that are placed on your computer's hard drive when you visit certain websites. We use cookies to tell us, for example, whether you have visited us before or if you are a new visitor and to help us identify site features in which you may have the greatest interest. Cookies may enhance your online experience by saving your preferences while you are visiting a particular site.
Most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to be notified when you receive a new cookie, and how to disable existing cookies. Please note, however, that without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of all our website features.
Certain pages on our websites contain "web beacons" (also know as Internet tags, pixel tags and clear GIFs or java script equivalents). These web beacons allow third parties to obtain information such as the IP address of the computer that downloaded the page on which the beacon appears, the URL of the page on which the beacon appears, the time the page containing the beacon was viewed, the type of browser used to view the page, and the information in cookies set by the third party.
We place great importance on the security of your personal information, and we have taken security measures to try to prevent the loss, misuse and alteration of personal information that we collect and hold. While we cannot ensure or guarantee that loss, misuse or alteration of your personal information will not occur, we will do our best to try to make sure that this does not happen.
To help protect your privacy and security, we will take reasonable steps to verify your identity, such as requiring a password and user ID, before granting access to your information.
We keep any personal information you send to us on a computer located in the United Kingdom. We need to do this in order to process the information you send us and to send FREE MKB email newsletters and occasional FREE goodies in the post.
You can tell us at any time that you do not wish us to use your personal information by writing to us at the address given at the end of this policy or by emailing us at mykindabook@macmillan.co.uk. If you write to or email us, please include your full name, date of birth, and email address so we can find you easily. Once you have let us know that you want us to stop using the personal information we will immediately stop using the information you give us.
We encourage parents and guardians to spend time online with their children and to participate in the activities offered on this site. If your child is younger than 13, we ask you to play an active role in safeguarding his or her privacy when using our site.
We make it a condition of using this site that no information is submitted to or posted on the site by children under 13 unless we have the consent of their parent or guardian. When your child registers to use the site (OR whenever your child takes part in an offer or activity on the site where we ask him or her for personal information) we will ask for your consent. If you are a parent or guardian and you provide your consent you agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy and the Terms and Conditions in respect of their use of MKB.
If your child is older than 13, we will ask him or her to give consent personally if we plan to keep or use his or her information for anything (we will also say what we plan to do with it). Please help your children with this.
If you join MKB, we will assume that you have read through this Privacy Policy and the Terms and Conditions carefully, and understand and accept them. If you do not wish us to use personal information to send you your MKB newsletters including notification of any books published by Pan Macmillan Limited you should ask us to stop using your personal information for that purpose as mentioned above. If you do not agree to anything in this policy, then you should not join MKB.
This Notice may be updated periodically and without prior notice to you to reflect changes in our online information practices. We will post a prominent notice on this site to notify you of any significant changes to our Privacy Policy and it is your responsibility as a user to ensure that you are aware of any such changes from time to time. Changes will become effective 24 hours after first posting and you will be deemed to have accepted any change if you continue to access the Site after that time.
You have a legal right to a copy of all the personal information that we hold about you (for which we may charge a small fee not exceeding the statutory maximum). You also have a right to ask us to correct any mistakes in that information. As mentioned above, you also have a right to ask us to stop using your personal information to contact you at any time.
