Fangirl

Rainbow Rowell

Cath and Wren are identical twins, and until recently they did absolutely everything together. Now they're off to university and Wren's decided she doesn't want to be one half of a pair anymore - she wants to dance, meet boys, go to parties and let loose. It's not so easy for Cath. She's horribly shy and has always buried herself in the fan fiction she writes, where she always knows exactly what to say and can write a romance far more intense than anything she's experienced in real life.

Without Wren Cath is completely on her own and totally outside of her comfort zone. She's got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can't stop worrying about her dad, who's loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

Now Cath has to decide whether she's ready to open her heart to new people and new experiences, and she's learning that there's more to learn about love than she ever thought possible . . .

Rainbow Rowell writes books. Sometimes she writes about adults (Attachments and Landline). Sometimes she writes about teenagers (Eleanor & Park and Fangirl). But she always writes about people who talk a lot. And people who feel like they’re s...

Rainbow Rowell is just one of those authors who you can't help but love. Fangirl was brilliant because it discussed a variety of topics, but I especially liked how the idea of being a fangirl was portrayed so positively when it isn't always seen that way. I liked how it was accessible to both younger and older readers based on both the subject matter but the ages of the characters and the ways in which as a reader you could easily identify with them. Lastly, if you enjoyed this, please, I beg of you, READ ELEANOR AND PARK BECACUSE IT'S ACTUALLY INCREDIBLE!!

I read this book very fast, it is a romance yes. But a good one ... ABSOLUTELY. The beautiful writing compliments the characters in the story who grow massively as it progresses.
Rainbow Rowell presents a powerful book that shows the difficulties, positives, negatives of modern relationships (Lovers, Friendships, Sisters) the has done a fabulous job of touching hearts and making readers connect with characters! - Even if it's just me.
If you like romance and personal realising/growing then this is for you. Simply Amazing - Thank You Rainbow Rowell - Just read it!

Rereading Fangirl for what seems like the millionth time and I have to admit it's just as magical and special.
I'd forgotten how much I love(d) Levi, Reagen, Wren, Cath (and her love for Simon and Baz!). It's definitely an amazing and extremely relatable book and is a must read for everyone. :)

Wow! I am really enjoying Fangirl and cannot put it down... It is beautifully written and portrays a young adult girl trying to be independent and get on without her twin sister wren. It contains romance, charm and the all round highs and lows of being at school and being a teenager.

The best thing about this book is how it has a happy ending, but it isn't ridiculously cheesy. I also loved how i could relate to the characters so much and how funny but great each chapter was. I just recommended this to all of my friends and the school librarian, because this book is so amazing you can't call yourself a teen reader if you haven't read it:)

I really loved it, especially because Cat is so much like I am. I could identify with her so well and she inspired my to write my own fanfictions. the best thing was that fangirl wasn't only one book but two in one (i loved the little extracts of carry on, simon). the characters we're so intense even though wren annoyed me a lot. but that's the thing about people, they can't be perfect all the time.

I have just finished this book and I loved it. Full of drama, it keeps you gripped right until the very last word. I could really relate to the the characters and the book was written really well. Although it was quite an easy read for me, I would thoroughly recommend it to teenagers aged 11-14.

I know a lot of people thought this book was amazing, but... I thought this book was okay.
Well...
It was too long- the plot felt stretched out. At times, it felt sickeningly smug, as if Rainbow Rowell was rolling around in Cath and Levi's perfect little love-circle. The plot veered off course and soon became rather tedious to read.

I'm not going to bash Rainbow Rowell- I think she's a fantastic author. Cath and Wren are well-developed, and I loved Reagan. Her understanding of fan culture was spot on, and she really knows what it's like to be lonely. You can just feel that off her.

Everything wrong with Fangirl could have been corrected with another edit. But it wasn't. Maybe the publishing house who published Eleanor and Park thought that the book was so perfect, that everything Rainbow Rowell ever wrote down would be flawless and thus there would be no need for editing it.

The book, had it not been so, well, average, I would probably have liked. It just needed to be edited more.
The book is slightly TOO perfect, too formulaic for me to really like it.

I found this book amazing!!!! Well I'm nearly finished it😅 I can't read any singular books, I can only read series, but Fangirl is the only one that I could read! I couldn't even finish the fault in our stars! I have to say I can relate to Cath and I think it is written beautifully.

The only thing that I didn't like was the fan fiction in the middle of chapters. I mean I love it but it gets in th e way. It would be nice if Rainbow would write another book with all of Caths fan fiction

I'm reading this book currently, so I have yet to experienced the emotional ride supposed to be brought by the ending - but I can really relate to the fact Cathy is a fan girl, and that's how she writes. I love the characters, but wren to me gets on my nerves, Levi unfortunately too. This book is a masterpiece and is greatly underrated. A classic.(5/5*s)

I really enjoyed this book. I found parts of it which were really funny and totally relateable. I also found the fan-fiction writing very inspirational, I would like to start writing my own stories as well. The fact that the character was experiencing college/uni was very interesting. The characters were also very real and the author made them realistic by making their emotions and feelings the way we (as readers) would react.

The only thing I disliked was the fan-fictions because they got in the way when I wanted to find out more about what was going to happen and I continuously found myself skimming the fan-fictions. However I would love it if there would be a separate part/book full of Cath`s fan-fiction.

Honestly fangirl isn't really my thing, i just fancied a change and lots of my friends recommended it to me, i'm halfway through the book and i don't really like it that much because the characters seem to stereotypical.
Cath's character is also quite easy to dislike as she is very quick to judge and quite snooty as she 'winces' when someone spells something wrong and she says to people that they 'don't understand' fandoms.
She's also very stereotypical as she wears cardigans and drinks tea and goes around seeming to think that she is better than everyone else.
I also think that the book romanticizes loneliness and prefering to be alone and avoiding people, which isn't a healthy image to be putting in someone's head. however the book is also quite fun to read as she is slightly relatable as we all have our little obsessions with things that sometimes people don't understand i just wish rainbow would step away from the stereotypes a little bit and also give us some insight into the other characters backstories :)
