Amy and Matthew

Cammie McGovern

Amy loves Matthew and he loves her back. This is their story.

Amy is unflinchingly honest about her limitations. Born with cerebral palsy, she can’t walk or talk without help. But trapped inside this uncooperative body lies a brilliant mind and a luminous spirit – a girl capable of truly loving and worthy of being loved in return.

Matthew has his own set of challenges – a mind consumed by unwanted repeated thoughts, obsessive rituals and a crippling fear that he can't explain. But underneath all of the anxiety lies a deep seed of hope for someone to come along who believes in him…

This is the story of Amy and Matthew. It may not be a fairy tale romance or set in an imagined world far from our own. But the love they share is real. And yes, there's magic in it.

contrary to some of the comments on here I thought this book was really good. For those criticising the portrayal of the illnesses within this book, I thought it was done in a tasteful manner and the author had clearly done their research. Also, to those saying it is a typical 'boy meets girl love story' and is rather cliché, I have to argue the opposite. I feel like it deals with issues that not all authors have chosen to deal with before, especially as regards Amy's CP. one of my favourite parts was the reference to The Awakening by Kate Chopin (which you should definitely check out if you haven't already!) I feel readers who like John Green/Katie Mcgarry in particular will connect with this book as I did.

It sounds like a really good book, not just your usual boy-meets-girl love story.

To be honest, this book seems really generic.
I don't want to criticize the writer, but it seems she can do better than follow the pattern that seems to be set for all YA books nowadays.
I mean, whenever a YA book gets noticed in the literary world, all the YA writers set out to copy it. At first, it was Twilight. Then The Hunger Games. And now it's The Fault in Our Stars.
Like, now there's a formula for a YA novel:
Sick, lonely girl with debilitating disease, who likes weird things
Healthy, hot guy who is social misfit and possibly mentally ill, takes interest in her
Cue creepy/awesome/obsessive/Tragic/starcrossedlove
:/

I wasn't quite sure about this book, I think it toes a line with controversy in fiction but that said, not in a good way. This book is written in an OK way, and I don't know if I'd Recommend it, but go give a try.

i'm very keen to read this but some people are telling me something different... i reckon most books are pretty great. apart from the ones with a boring start..! i will read it one day, and see for myself about ratings. though, books aren't all about what they hold, some times, this author is just trying to get her feelings out.

Sounds like a really great book, with an original plot, but there are some negative reviews here! I'm keen to read it and see what I think.

Personally it wasn't really that good of a book. I didn't really enjoy the story line and through out the whole book there was a constant repetition on their relationship.
