MKB's totally random interview questions with Gina Blaxill

If you were a type of food what would you be?

From my fondness for fruit and my very colourful wardrobe, I think I would be a fruit salad.

We've decided to stop asking our writer's all the normal boring questions and mix things up a bit with some totally random ones. Starting with Gina Blaxill . . .

Earliest memory?

I the first thing I properly remember (rather than earlier things which my parents have told me about) was going to reception to meet the teacher and class. Someone gave me a satsuma and I accidentally squirted it at another child who told the teacher that the roof was leaking. I then played with some building blocks and went home and ate toast and watched the Clangers.

First pet?

We had a greyhound called Holly while I was at primary school. I don’t remember her as being very lively dog and she was afraid of doors. We once took Holly into school so that my classmates could see a real dog and everyone tried to feed her dog biscuits, which she refused to eat.

First book you got out of the library?

I was a big library lover when I was growing up – it got to the sad point where I had actually read all the kids’ books in both my local libraries. I don’t remember the first book, but very early on I got out a Chalet School book, thought it was rubbish and discarded it in disgust. Which is funny, because those books became probably my favourite ever series.

If you were a type of food what would you be?

From my fondness for fruit and my very colourful wardrobe, I think I would be a fruit salad.

If you were an animal what would you be?

A dog. They’re not only my favourite animal, but they’re also loyal friends, smart and loving.

Super-hero costume of choice?

Wonderwoman. As far as I’m concerned, she is the one, the only and the best.

What album do you have on repeat?

The soundtrack to the musical of Legally Blonde, which I must have seen about eight times in the last two years. I love the songs and the story. Never fails to make me feel happy.

Last book you read?

The Star of Kazan by Eva Ibbotson. It’s really charming. She’s another author whose back catalogue I’m working through.
