Best Kisses in YA

To celebrate the release of Kiss Cam by the wonderful Kiara London, publishing with us under the Swoon Reads imprint, we decided to share some of our favourite kisses in YA. But, as it’s awards season, we decided to do it a little bit differently.

Most Swoonworthy Kiss goes to...

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz

AHHHHH! The build up to this moment, this beautiful and poignant moment between our leads, is just so beautiful. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz is just perfect, and the scene where we finally get our kiss between the two leads is one of the most heart-burstingly wonderful things I have ever read. So very beautiful, so very *heart eyes forever*.

Most Anticipated Kiss goes to...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling

So it isn’t technically YA but by the end, Harry Potter gets a lot more serious and a lot darker and I can honestly think of no kiss I have wanted to happen more than that of Ron and Hermione! For 7 books we waited, watching the build up, feeling the longing as it intensified (especially from book 4 onwards) and then BOOM CLAP IT HAPPENS AND OMFG YAY!

Best Longing goes to...

Kiss Cam by Kiara London

Kiss Cam by Kiara London is a book that is basically one of my favourite YA tropes but in novel form: two people have to kiss each other because reasons, but it’s fine, neither of them have feelings for one another…right? This is a book filled with longing and yearning between Juniper and Jasper as they perform kissing dares on their YouTube channel. Which is the best kiss, I hear you ask? Pick one. (The surprise ones are GOLD!)

Most Romantic Kiss goes to...

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell is just one of those books that sticks with you for a really long time. I read this quite a few years ago and there is so much of it I can remember so vividly. It's beautiful! An absolute celebration of fandoms, fan-fiction and fan cutlure. But what I'm going to talk about is one of my absolute favourite moments of the whole book - THAT KISS! While I enjoyed Cath finding her feet at college and the gorgeous gorgeous snippets of Simon & Baz fanfiction AND Simon Snow books, I have a soft spot for Levi and this kiss is sweet and romantic and *hearteyes*.

Best Kiss. Period. goes to...

Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan

Two Boys Kissing is set around one of the greatest kisses in ever. On September 18th 2010 two college students (Matty Delay and Bobby Cancielo) kissed for thirty-two hours, thirty minutes, and forty-five seconds to break the Guiness World Record for the longest kiss. It was an effort of student activism in the fight for the equal rights of LGBTQ people and it was glorious.
