Book of the Month: Beautiful Broken Things

I was brave. She was reckless. We were trouble.

It's February, and we have a new Book of the Month for you guys! Beautiful Broken Things is Sara Barnard's debut novel and will be out on the 11th. We'll be talking about it on the blog all month long. Here it is in all it's shiny, foily glory:

Most beautiful looking book ever? MAYBE.

But the insides of the book are stunning too. At the very core of it, this is a love story without the romance. An ode to the love that is teenage friendship.

Caddy is sixteen, and a nice girl – a quiet, normal sort. She dreams of having things happen to her, of losing her virginity and falling in love, of being the sort of person that her best friend Rosie is. Caddy knows this doesn’t make your life more worthwhile, but yet she’s fascinated by trauma and at the same time, a little guilty for not having anything of the sort in her own life. Then there’s Rosie’s new friend Suzanne. Suzanne is beautiful, mysterious and fun. Suzanne is a threat. But after some digging Caddy soon discovers that there’s something troubling in Suzanne’s past and things get a lot more complicated

They soon learn, the course of friendship and recovery is rougher than any of the girls could have imagined, and Caddy is about to learn that downward spirals have a momentum of their own.

This is a poignant story of about teenage friendships, hardships and rebuilding your life.

We'll be talking about Beautiful Broken Things on the blog throughout the month, including guest blogs by Sara Barnard, playlists and MORE.
